- Kansas City has fabulous housing stock, particularly in the period referenced in this book (1885-1938). Focuses only on local architects so some of the more famous houses by Chicago and East Coast architects are not included. I hope they do a second volume for homes built in later periods.
- This is a lovely coffee table book for all Kansas Citians and for lovers of residential architecture everywhere. Wonderful to have the lush photography accompanied by "blueprints" where possible. Truly, this was a golden age of home construction. We shall not see its like again.
- I love Kansas City and enjoyed seeing the photographs and reading the history behind many of the homes still standing in KC. Unfortunately there are several structures in the book that are no longer standing, but thankfully they at least get “saved†by being documented in this book, as well.

- I had ordered Michael's book Great Houses of New York so I decided to purchase the Kansas City Houses book. I am once again impressed with Michael Kathrens ability to brilliantly describe the architecture as well as the stories of the people who commissioned these beautiful homes. If you enjoy Architecture, photos and plans, his books are a must have.
